The Best of Gay San Diego ’09
Published Thursday, 19-Mar-2009 in issue 1108
From beaches to bars, cocktails to cosmetic surgeons, malls to mechanics, the Gay & Lesbian Times’ Best of Gay San Diego celebrates the amenities that make life in America’s Finest City, well, the finest.
This year, we asked readers to vote on 36 categories running the gamut from drag performers to dry cleaners. While some once again tried to cheat the system (we’re privy to IP addresses), others rallied to support their favorite local businesses. Congratulations to everyone who made the list!
Don’t miss out on what these businesses have to offer. You voted. We counted. Here are the results. …
Editor’s note: Categories and notables are not listed by number of votes.

Great list that includes best yoga, restaurant, gym, live music, live theater, best hookup - WTF? WTF people, WTF does this say? Do we really need to perpetuate the "screw it if it moves" characterization of our community by putting "Best Hook-Up Website" on this list? You add this to the list, you make it just like any other stereotypical list of what Gays do...get their hair and nails done, have a cocktail, get a massage, then get online and look for a trick. I don't care who does the website thing (hell, I have ;)) but for crying out loud, why do we continue to shoot ourselves in the ass (pun intended)?! We ARE in the midst of trying to overturn DoMA, reverse Prop 8, get equal rights at the federal level, after all. Stop perpetuating the myth that our primary identity is sexual. It's not about being overtly sexual, it's about our freedom to express our sexuality with whomever we desire, without penalty. There's a big difference. Good grief, think with something besides your penis, just for once.

And if you are going to include best hook-up website, then you have to include best bath house, best BJ technique, best bathroom for anonymous sex, best bushes, best BB lube.

The best yoga is really the Bikram studio on Hancock Street. It's world famous!
