Sarah Critchlow, a longtime resident of San Diego and owner of Redwing Bar & Grill, is no stranger to the local bar scene. Originally from Marin County, Sarah has spent more than 20 years in management and ownership positions at some of San Diego’s most famous and notable past and present hot spots.
As an owner of Six Degrees and a manager and bartender of other local bars, Critchlow’s expertise has aided in the success of Tin Pan Alley, The Arena, Club Bombay, Hamburger Mary’s, Peacock Alley, Top of the Park and The Flame. Her production company was responsible for some of the hottest entertainment in town at the Peacock Alley.
Critchlow took a three-year hiatus from the bar business to build a successful real estate career with Century 21. While her thumb is still on the pulse of the real estate market, she devotes most of her time now to her new endeavor, Redwing Bar & Grill in North Park. Critchlow purchased this longtime landmark in June 2005, creating positive changes while still maintaining the famous neighborhood bar nostalgia that has contributed to Redwing’s popularity. Renovations include a beautiful, full-service patio bar filled with plants, umbrellas, heaters and misters for those balmy San Diego days.
Other changes that keep the clientele coming back and prompt new patronage include happy hour seven days a week, $1 wells on Tuesdays and $2 “you call its” on Friday. With friendly bartenders, the lowest prices in town and a place where the staff and owner know your name, Redwing is an establishment well worth visiting.
Critchlow has long been a supporter of the local community. Redwing supports teams in the dart and pool leagues, as well charities like Mama’s Kitchen, Christie’s Place and the Mandy Schultz Scholarship Fund.
